Brilliant.

I love the retro style of it, the music is awesome and the graphics are beautiful, some may disagree, but I love pixel drawings. It's like playing an old NES game or something. Did you do the all the art yourself coz the sprites look lifted from a real game, if you did draw them then that just shows how accurately you recreated a style! Also, it's tremendous fun, takes a while before it gets hard, but still compelling.

Thanks for the review !

I did all art myself. Devlin, the enemies and the platforms were drawn in MSPaint, the rest in Flash :)

I'm glad you like the music, some people who played it before the release begged for a 'sound off' button ;)

I forgot to mention that it's possible to beat the game if you survive until level 10 :)

I.m.o. the real fun starts around level 6 ~ 7 when more demons appear!

Well, yes

I wish there were more AS tutorial that explain WHY the code does what it does, not just 'copy this code into flash.' If you made that, it would be cool

Ok I will. Next update.

Cool

Ah, lighten up Harry Potter Fan Boys. It's only a game. I read the books agaes ago, and yes, they are a lot cooler than you'd think, but it's all the hype and those awful movies that everyone hates...

Anyway, nice game. Not amazingly original and no depth of gameplay but that was hardly the point, was it? As far as these games go, this is a good one. I often feel using the mouse to shoot stuff doesn't feel very solid, but this did because of the SFX and the exploding potters. I would suggest making the different weapons more varied. EG a shotgun that has to reload but gives you a bigger crosshair or a rapid laser with a smaller crosshair, something like that. But it was a lot of fun.

You are onto something

This is very good work as an engine for a game in development. You should really do more work on this as it has the potential to be quite a nice little shooter.

The graphics, sound and animation are all fine. However, the collison detection is a little random. I flew straight through an asteroid without dying! This needs to be fixed. A lot of work also needs to be done on level design. Nobody minds arcade games being repetetive to a point, but the pace should be a little better judged. The action takes a long while to get going, with few enemies on the screen at once and little challenge. You should consider making the enemy ships fire bullets at you.

For inspiration I think you should really look at the design of games such as R-Type 3, Ikaruga and Gradius 3. Nobody expects you to make a game as good as these titles, but they will give you insight if you pay attention to the way the levels are structured.

You have a lot of potential

NeoJester responds:

The whole thing with the meteors is that if you sit on them to long then you lose life gradually. We did test a version where they did kill you on impact but it seemed to hard to get past at some points. We have also been working on enemies shooting back but yet again we were killed by time contraints. Still workin on it though so thanks for the feedback!

Hello, kids! How are you doing? Just thought I'd let you bask in my glory!
